Web Browsing

  • Occasionally the REDFLY's mouse pointer icon can get out of sync with the BlackBerry's trackball pointer while browsing preventing you from clicking on a link. Hold down the CTRL key and press the R key to reset the cursor position.
  • While in the web browser, the left mouse key can't be used as a toggle key for check boxes. Instead, use the space bar on the REDFLY.

Touchpad

  • Most BlackBerry apps do not accept input from a touchpad, mouse or pointer. Pressing FN+5 on the REDFLY toggles between the mouse and 5-way functionality. Use the 5-way option during normal use and the mouse only in applications like the browser which accept pointer input.

Bluetooth

  • The recommended method for connecting REDFLY to a BlackBerry is over USB. While a Bluetooth connection is supported, it results in slower performance. Faster phones like the BlackBerry Bold 9000 perform better over Bluetooth. See the Bluetooth Set-up Instructions if you would like to try connecting to the REDFLY over Bluetooth.

Application Switching

  • Press and hold the ALT+TAB keys to cycle between applications.

Charge over USB

  • REDFLY will charge your smartphone when connected over USB as long as REDFLY is turned on or in sleep mode.

REDFLY Settings

  • Press and hold the FN+Menu keys to launch REDFLY settings.

Screen Stretching and Image Clarity

  • Your REDFLY has a 800x480-pixel display. The BlackBerry OS does not allow a phone's screen resolution to be changed at this time so upon connection to the REDFLY, the BlackBerry's native-resolution screen image (for example 480x320 pixels on the BlackBerry Bold 9000) is "stretched" to fit the REDFLY's screen. The screen is stretched vertically to match the height of the REDFLY screen, and proportionately in the horizontal direction as to not distort the perspective of the image. The screen stretching will result in a small black bar to the left and right of the BlackBerry's screen image when viewed on REDFLY. The screen stretching horizontally and vertically will also result in a slightly diminished image quality. To turn off REDFLY screen stretching, a) launch the REDFLY settings; b) press the Menu key and choose Advanced; c) set "Stretch Screen Image" to Disabled; e) press the Menu key and choose Close; f) select Save if asked to save changes.

System Tray and Battery Indicator

  • REDFLY features a small slide-out, on-screen System Tray displaying remaining battery life, Bluetooth connection status, caps lock status, and more. The System Tray briefly appears when you turn on REDFLY or connect it with a phone. To view the System Tray at any time, first toggle the 5-way nav feature to the mouse/pointer setting by pressing FN+5 on the REDFLY's keyboard then moving the mouse pointer to the far bottom right of REDFLY's screen. Press FN+5 again to switch back to 5-way nav mode for normal BlackBerry use.

Tips for Windows Mobile 6.0 and 6.1 Smartphones

Supported Phones

  • Please check www.celiocorp.com/smartphone before installing the REDFLY driver to ensure you have a REDFLY-compatible Windows Mobile device.

Primary Keyboard Shortcuts

  • The REDFLY logo Menu key on REDFLY's keyboard has the same functionality as the Windows Mobile Start Menu key on your phone.
  • Use REDFLY's Left-Right-Up-Down arrow and Enter keys the same way you use your phones 5-way nav pad for navigation.
  • Use REDFLY's F3(Left) and F11(Right) keys to select Left and Right softkey options on your phone.
  • Download a full list of REDFLY keyboard shortcuts (PDF).

Touchpad Usage

  • REDFLY's touchpad may be used to simulate a mouse/pointer or a 5-way navigation pad. Most Windows Mobile Professional (touch screen phones) apps fully accept mouse/pointer control. Most Windows Mobile Standard (non-touch screen phones) apps however do not recognize mouse/pointer input and the 5-way nav REDFLY setting should be used. Pressing FN+5 on the REDFLY keyboard toggles between the mouse/pointer and 5-way functionality.

Suggested Phone Specs

  • Smartphone processor and memory dictate much of the REDFLY experience. For the best REDFLY experience, make sure you are using a phone with a 400MHz processor or better and at least 124MB of free memory.

Application Switching

  • Press and hold the ALT+TAB keys to cycle between open applications.

Charge over USB

  • REDFLY will charge your smartphone when connected over USB as long as REDFLY is turned on or in sleep mode.

REDFLY Settings

  • Press and hold the FN+Menu keys to launch REDFLY settings.

Today Screen Background

  • The Windows Mobile Professional default background on the Today Screen on some phones may not render properly on the expanded screen of the REDFLY. If you experience this, simply change the Today Theme to one of the other themes included with your Windows Mobile phone such as Guava Bubbles.

Application Compatibility

  • REDFLY's Windows Mobile software driver changes the output resolution on the smartphone to 800x480 or higher in order to take full advantage of REDFLY's 800x480-pixel display allowing you to see more information when connected to REDFLY. While most Windows Mobile applications scale well to 800x480, some applications may not display correctly when connected to REDFLY.
