REDFLY Windows Mobile Left

Customer Stories

I specialize in providing very small companies with advanced technology including mobile access. Ive had the opportunity to test popular laptop formats including the new netbooks. The hassle of maintaining a laptop operating system, syncing data, the weight/heat, waiting for bootups and high cost kept me from ever buying one for myself.

I concluded a few years ago that a screen and keyboard for the phone would be the way to go. I had no idea it could be done as nicely as Celio has done with the Redfly. Open it, press the bluetooth button on the Redfly keyboard and a second later I'm checking email and calendar, entering billing items, remoting to customer servers and looking up things on the net. It was a surprise that the performance over bluetooth would be so snappy.

Ive been carrying it with me every day, Ive used it to recharge my phone already once. I'm surprised how long the phone runs when connected via bluetooth due to the phones screen being off. Its great not having to look for an outlet upon reaching my next destination.

You don't realize how powerful windows mobile phones are until you access the OS with a keyboard and large screen. I use PocketInformant, FlexMail, Resco File Explorer and Opera 8.6.5 which help to make WM6 more like windows running on a laptop.

Ive been using remote desktop so often that I dedicated an old PC in my office to be the "host". Once remoted in I have Internet Explorer tweaked for the 800x480 screen. I get multiple tabs, roboform password management and it runs a bit faster than IE6 on the phone itself.

Its been awhile since a new technology product fulfilled my expectations as the Redfly has. Highly recommended!

I purchased a REDFLY to use with my HP910 and love it! The combination has proved most effective. The REDFLY was breeze to setup and use. Support is fantastic! I am a retired healthcare administrator doing consulting and travel quite a bit in my 2007 40' motorhome and all of my telecommunications are via wireless services. My clients think the REDFLY is sooo cool... It has the fit and finish of a Porsche.

The REDFLY allows me to have a secondary storage port (it has two USB ports and a VGA output port) to which I can attach an 8GB flash drive. Here in the motorhome I have attached a ZIP drive for additional storage. An added feature is the large internal battery in the REDFLY that can charge my phone in out-of-the-way locations.

With my HP910 I can run medical software, spreadsheets, Word, Excel, dBase, contacts lists, inventory, etc.

My "other" HP, a Presario laptop, sits in its case getting more buried each day under more magazines! I don't need to carry around something with such a weight factor or large footprint.

I got a Redfly as soon as it was available, used it daily, lost it, and bought another one. Although I felt foolish for losing the first one, I didn't miss a beat, as the data was all stored on my Treo 700w/x.

This thing has been an absolute godsend. The battery life is outstanding. No security concerns, no boot-up time, none of the headaches Ive had with the office laptops. It allows me to use my phone for all of my computing needs on the road and I no longer have to call our IT folks every ten minutes with one problem or another.

I LOVE MY REDFLY!

"First off, I am very impressed with the execution of the concept. I initially didn't think there would be much value in a hardware extension of my smartphone, but after using it I really get the value proposition at the new $399 price (no data stored on board and no syncing, devices can be pooled and loaned out as needed, if lost no data issues, small form factor, etc). "

"The one-touch instant on and near-instant blue-tooth connection makes it really usable. Our offices are split between floors and its nice to bring the REDFLY along when spending several hours on a floor that's not the same as your office. Also great for the train when traveling to our remote offices."

"I was pleasantly surprised by the experience. I carry the REDFLY to meetings instead of a laptop and take notes in Word Mobile. At my desk, instead of working off the cell phone, I open the REDFLY most of the time. It presents info nicely on the screen. It's nice to be able to open a web browser on a bigger screen."

"We have had major network issues which we have been able to rectify thanks to REDFLY. A number of our sites had no connection and our IT staff using their PDA, 3G, Mobile Remote Desktop and the REDFLY to give full laptop type remote access to our servers and telnet to routers at both sides of the network problem!! Thanks REDFLY."

"One of our drivers is to use thin client technology for delivering both full desktops and ad-hoc applications. Once this is in place, I can see a potential to reduce the number of mobile users with both a PDA/Blackberry AND 3G enabled laptop, replacing these with a WM6 PDA for push email and a REDFLY for accessing their virtual "desktop". Over the last few weeks, I have been working over 3G/Wi-Fi with the PDA and REDFLY to access my Virtual Vista Machine instead of using the laptop."

"I just wanted to send a quick comment regarding the purchase of my REDFLY. I have just started a small company, and use my Touch for almost everything from emails to word processing. Setup was faster then pouring a cup of coffee. I was so floored that it took me awhile to put it down."

"I call it a wide screen television for my phone, most of what I do is done on a mobile basis, and REDFLY gave me that ability. Lighter than a Stephen King paperback, extremely long battery. I just survived three days away from an outlet and was still able to check my mail while traveling."

"I'm still amazed how much I get done with just my REDFLY and Touch smartphone. One thing I want to add is that for someone who is near sighted, it makes it so much easier and less strain on my eyes. Thanks again for a great machine, REDFLY Rules."

"I was on the waiting list for Foleo. I carry the REDFLY to meetings and use our Citrix based project management and cost accounting system. I will always carry it with me. You cant compare it to the total cost of ownership of a laptop. Clearly the benefit of the plug and play to a Bluetooth phone is tremendous. I couldn't possibly over-value the fact that you have nothing to lose but the hardware price itself."

I love having the keyboard while surfing the internet and texting family and friends.I totally dig having a larger (physical) screen and even better, having more pixels to show more content at the same time.

I love not having to backup and synchronize files on another device.

The size is good and lightweight. It is durable so I dont feel like I need a carrying bag or case.

I just grab it and go.

The Redfly received lukewarm reviews in the UK for two reasons. It was initially over-priced and the reviewers did not understand the rationale. You need to have the appropriate business/personal lifestyle to appreciate the Redfly. The realtime access to my email using a simple immediate-start device (as opposed to a laptop) that allows full keyboard and viewing capability is really useful. The current price in the UK of £150 from one or two

Just received my C8 less than a week ago and I am hooked!! The mobility of this product is amazing. I have carried a laptop for years and they don't transport very easy in a work vehicle. Looking up a map is torture on a laptop with the bulk and bootup time. With the REDFLY it's instant on and instant connect. A wonderful product and I am eagerly looking forward to what else Celio can come up with.

I ran across the REDFLY one day just surfing the web.It looked pretty interesting and substantially cheaper than investing in a full fledged laptop or netbook. I have both a Tilt and BlackJack II and switch between the both on a as I feel basis. The only knock that I had on either of the phones is that I didnt have a way to really unlock the real potential of the programs due to the small screen. As a school administrator, I often take home documents or files to work on via a flash drive, but with two small children can not sit in my basement to work continually. With a price $199 why not give it a whirl?
I received it on Halloween, and my dad, who ended up ordering one for himself, played with it for an hour upon me showing him it. Setup and syncing are super easy, and I LOVE that it recharges my phone, a definite plus for the TILT, as I work. I downloaded Logmein.com and have access to my PC at home. The keyboard is small, but i adapted quickly. I have even used it to show a Powerpoint presentation to my staff for Professional Development. My only request is that Skyfire will one day work on it, and it would be really the ultimate device. I really look forward what Celio Corp can come up with in the future. P.S. ...I typed this entire review on my REDFLY!
