REDFLY ScreenSlider technology allows you to use your Android device as a wireless external monitor for your Windows PC or laptop computer. Once connected, your Android device's screen will function just like any external monitor connected to your PC while the REDFLY ScreenSlider app on the device is running in the foreground.

System and Hardware Requirements:

Tablet:
Android tablet running Android 3.0.1 or later

Smartphone:
Android smartphone running Android 2.2 or later

PC:
Windows XP (32 bit only), Vista (32 bit only), or 7 operating system (32 bit or 64 bit)
1GB RAM; 1.5GH CPU; 50 MB free storage

Network:
PC and Android device must be connected to the same Local Area Network (LAN).

Before You Begin:

  1. Make sure Wi-Fi is enabled on your Android device and that the device is connected over Wi-Fi to the same LAN as your PC. The PC may be connected over Wi-Fi or a wired network connection to your LAN.
  2. In order to use REDFLY ScreenSlider, you first need to install separate ScreenSlider applications on both your Android device and your Windows PC/laptop.

Android device:
Launch the Android Market app on your device. Search for "ScreenSlider" to find the app then install it on your device.

PC/Laptop:
From your PC go to www.celiocorp.com/screenslider and download the Windows application installer. Follow the step-by-step instructions to install the REDFLY ScreenSlider application on your PC or laptop.

Connecting the device to the PC (for the first time):

  1. Launch the REDFLY ScreenSlider app on your Android device.
  2. Give your device a unique name so the ScreenSlider app on your PC can find it then click OK.
  3. You'll see a screen on the device saying, "The device setup process is complete..." Click OK. Make sure you keep the device and screen turned on for the next step.
  4. On your PC, left click on the REDFLY ScreenSlider "R" logo in your PC's system tray and choose "Find Devices."
  5. Your PC should display a list of all REDFLY-enabled and powered on Android devices that are on the network. Find the device with the unique name (from step 2 above), the double click it. (Note: If you cannot see your Android device's name on the PC's list, make sure your PC and device are connected to the same network and the Android ScreenSlider app is launched on your device.)
  6. Your Android device should now display a 6-digit authentication/PIN code. Enter that code into the box provided on your PC and click OK.
  7. Your device should now be connected and you'll see a blank black screen. Drag any PC window over to the device's screen to begin using the device as an external monitor.
  8. To disconnect, either a) Press the menu button on the Android device and choose "Disconnect," or left click the ScreenSlider "R" logo in your PC's system tray and choose "Close Session."

Connecting the device to the PC (each time after the first time):

  1. Launch the REDFLY ScreenSlider app on your Android device.
  2. Left click the ScreenSlider "R" logo in your PC's system tray and choose your device name from the list of previously connected devices. The PC should automatically connect to the device (Note: if your PC or device has temporarily left the network and been assigned a new IP address you may need to enter a new 6-digit PIN.)
  3. To disconnect, either a) Press the menu button on the Android device and choose "Disconnect," or left click the ScreenSlider "R" logo in your PC's system tray and choose "Close Session."

Changing the Settings for Your device:

While connected to your Android device, left click the ScreenSlider "R" logo in your PC's system tray and choose "Settings." A settings window will appear on the PC allowing you to change the position of your device (Left or Right) relative to your main PC/laptop monitor. The same settings window has a checkbox to allow the ScreenSlider app on your PC to automatically launch at startup. If you check the box labeled, "Mirror Desktop" then the device display will mirror your PC's display instead of functioning as a secondary monitor (a restart of your PC is required every time the "Mirror Desktop" checkbox is checked or unchecked).

Touchscreen Gestures

ScreenSlider features a number of touchscreen gestures allowing you to interact with PC applications and mimic PC functionality. Note: Not all Android devices support more than two touch points at a time so three-finger gestures may not work on all devices.

Tips, Features, and Android Menu Items

  1. The standard Android "Menu" button has several helpful options including; on-screen keyboard toggle, exit application, clipboard sync, display applications, and disconnect (severs connection session with your PC).

  2. Press the Android "Menu" button and select "Keyboard" to pop up the standard Android keyboard and insert text into any text field on the PC application window displayed on your android device. For example: touch the URL text box in your browser then press the Android "Menu" button and select "Keyboard" to ender a web address.

  3. The Clipboard Sync feature allows you to transfer text to and from the Windows OS and Android OS. To use: 1) Select and copy some text on either the PC or Android OS. 2) Press the "Menu" button on your Android device's screen and choose "Clipboard Sync" and select the appropriate choice from the pop-up screen. The text will now be transferred into the other operating system's clipboard and you can paste the text into any application using the standard copy/paste commands. Example: Open a Word document on your PC, copy some of the text, sync the clipboard, and finally, paste the text into an SMS/text message on your Android smartphone's built-in Messaging app.

  4. The Display Applications feature allows you to grab any application running on the PC and move its window over to the Android device's screen without needing to touch your PC. To use: 1) While connected, Press the "Menu" button on your Android device's screen and choose "Display Applications." 2) Choose from the list of available applications running on your PC. Note: Only applications currently launched and running on your PC will show up in the Display Applications list.

  5. While the REDFLY ScreenSlider app is running in the foreground on your Android Tablet, the screen will stay active and turned on. Your normal Android screen timeout settings are temporarily overridden in order to provide a better user experience when using the Android device as an external monitor. Leaving the screen turned on and active for extended periods will affect battery life on your device. Celio Corp recommends leaving your tablet plugged into its power source if you intend to use the tablet as an external monitor for extended periods of use.

  6. In order for your tablet to maintain a connection to your PC, it must stay within range of your Wi-Fi router and on the same LAN as your PC.
