How does the REDFLY work?
REDFLY extends the usability of smartphones via a direct connection through USB or Bluetooth, without synchronization, to a larger display, keyboard and touchpad for easy use of smartphone email, attachments, web, and applications.
How much memory does the REDFLY have?
REDFLY does not have any onboard user accessible memory. REDFLY simply provides a larger screen and keyboard for your smartphone. The memory used by applications and for data storage is that of the smartphone. This includes system memory as well as the smartphone’s storage card memory. The USB ports on the REDFLY can also be used with common USB memory products (for Windows Mobile phones only at this time).
How long does the REDFLY battery last?
The REDFLY C7 model will last up to 5 hours with average use. The C8 or C8N models will last up to 8 hours.
What operating system does the REDFLY use?
REDFLY has no operating system of its own. REDFLY is compatible with select Windows Mobile and BlackBerry smartphones. For the most current list of supported devices, see the list at http://www.celiocorp.com/smartphone.
Which smartphones does the REDFLY work with?
REDFLY currently supports selected smartphones running Windows Mobile and BlackBerry operating systems. There are always new phones being added to the REDFLY compatibility list. Visit http://www.celiocorp.com/smartphone for the latest list of compatible phones.
How do I install the REDFLY software on my phone?
Installation of the REDFLY driver on your smartphone is done the same way any other application is installed. The REDFLY driver can be installed directly to your smartphone over-the-air (OTA) or via your PC through a USB connection.
Does the REDFLY allow me to use my smartphone to place and receive calls?
Yes. The phone continues to function as it normally does and will allow you to both place and receive calls.
Can the REDFLY connect with more than one phone at a time?
The REDFLY can only connect with one phone at a time, but can connect with any smartphone that has the REDFLY software properly installed.
Do I have to have a data plan for my phone to use the REDFLY?
It is not necessary for you to have an active data plan to connect between your Smartphone and REDFLY. An active data plan will allow you to connect to the internet and receive email. See your wireless service provider for details on data plans.
What if I change service providers?
The REDFLY is compatible with selected smartphones. Changing service providers may require you to change smartphones. See tested smartphone list at http://www.celiocorp.com/smartphone for the latest information on supported phones.
What happens to my smartphone screen when I am using REDFLY?
Once connected to the REDFLY; the information displayed on the smartphone is transferred to the REDFLY. On some smartphones, the screen is disabled and turned off to conserve the smartphone battery power. Others may continue to display information. Once the connection between the REDFLY and the phone is terminated, the phone’s screen becomes the active screen again.
What applications can I use on the REDFLY?
REDFLY supports applications that can be loaded on the smartphone. Some common examples include Microsoft Office Mobile applications such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint, Docs-To-Go, navigation applications and other third party applications.
Does an application, such as PowerPoint, have to be open or running on my smartphone to see it on the REDFLY?
Yes. The REDFLY only displays the active or running applications on the phone.
Can I open and modify email attachments?
The REDFLY will allow you to view and modify any email attachments just as you would using the application software installed on the smartphone.
If I have my smartphone turned on with Bluetooth activated, does REDFLY immediately show my applications when I turn on the REDFLY?
Yes, once a Bluetooth connection has been made, any application active on the smartphone will be displayed on the REDFLY.
Can I use the REDFLY on an airplane?
Yes, so long as your smartphone is in flight mode and its wireless radios are turned off. The communication between the REDFLY and the smartphone can be accomplished using the smartphone USB cable.
Can I turn off the Touch Pad?
Yes, there is a setting that allows you to disable the touchpad when an external USB mouse is connected.
What screen resolution does the REDFLY support?
The REDFLY's default display resolution is 800 x 480, and it can also support an 800 x 600 mode.
Can I connect REDFLY to a projector or other large external display such as a flat panel monitor?
The REDFLY has a built-in VGA port that supports connection to standard projectors and computer displays that accept and support 800 x 480 and 800 x 600.
If I have the REDFLY connected to an external projector, will it automatically display through the projector or do I have to do something on the REDFLY?
One of keys on the REDFLY keyboard switches the display between the REDFLY and the VGA port for external display, or allows it to appear on both at the same time.
Does the REDFLY support video content that is downloaded to the phone such as Flash or YouTube?
REDFLY does not currently support the playing of digital video from the smartphone.
What is the REDFLY Media Port?
The REDFLY Media Port, available only on the REDFLY C8N model, allows you to view analog video content, formatted in NTSC or PAL format, from an external video source, such as an iPod, Zune or digital camera on the REDFLY. See www.celiocorp.com/product_video for details.
What cable connections are required to play the external video content?
You will need one of two different REDFLY Media Cables. The Media Cable, model CRF-MC1 will also require your media player’s Audio Video cable. The Media Cable, model CRF-MC2 is specifically designed to be used with iPod. See www.celiocorp.com/product_video for details.
Does the REDFLY include speakers or audio output?
No. Any audio content can be heard either from the smartphone’s or external media player’s speakerphone or headphones.
What is the warranty on the REDFLY?
REDFLY comes with a 1 year Manufacturers Limited Warranty.
